There was a morning recently when all the fight had been knocked right out of me. I sat alone in the car ready to collapse on the steering wheel from exhaustion. The warrior mama in me was tired. I felt completely and utterly defeated. I wanted to tell God he had made a huge mistake picking me for this battle.
So I looked right up at him and said,
“This is too much! I need your encouragement right now. Tell me this will be okay and you are in complete control of every detail. Please?!”
It was one of those desperate prayers where I was begging God to remind me who he was.
I put the keys in the ignition and the radio began.
“They are inside your head
You got a voice that says
You won’t get past this one
You won’t win your freedom
It’s like a constant war
And you want to settle that score
But you’re bruised and beaten
And you feel defeated
This goes out to the heaviest heart…”
God had my attention.
“Oh, to everyone who’s hit their limit
It’s not over yet
It’s not over ye-et
And even when you think you’re finished
It’s not over yet
It’s not over ye-et
Keep on fighting
Out of the dark
Into the light
It’s not over
Hope is rising
Never give in
Never give up
It’s not over”
I’ve heard “Its Not Over Yet” by King and Country a hundred times but never before had it spoken to my soul.
I was so excited to hear God speaking to me in those lyrics and immediately wanted to share it with my friend Heidi. Before sending it to her, I researched the story behind the song. As I listened to the band explain their inspiration for writing it, I heard the album’s release date:
September 16, 2014.
The day Josiah died.
♥
On the day Josiah died, a song was released that God would use to remind me this story is far from over.
“It’s not over yet” were exactly the words I needed to hear. I asked for encouragement and he provided. Knowing I have a Father who listens to every desperate prayer is overwhelming. Knowing he has been in every detail since this battle began is sustaining. Knowing he is on his throne and he will have the final word is reassuring. Without him I wouldn’t have the strength or the hope to keep on fighting.
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31
It’s not over yet.
